Abstract:

Textbooks are works prepared in accordance with the curriculum within the education system in line with the determined purposes. These works are important in terms of reflecting the state's point of view. While the textbooks present all the concepts and terms of the branch in which they are prepared, to the target student group in the most accurate way, they do not neglect to benefit from neighboring disciplines. In this respect, geographical concepts and terms can sometimes be used in other branches of social sciences such as history, sociology and literature, sometimes in science such as physics, chemistry, biology, and sometimes in foreign language education branches such as English and German. In this respect, there is a need for interdisciplinary studies investigating the use of the concept. In this research, the relationship between Geography and Sociology sciences in an interdisciplinary context and the use of concepts were tried to be revealed in terms of textbooks. For this purpose, sociology textbooks taught in secondary schools in the 2022-2023 academic year were examined in terms of geography curriculum and geographical concepts. The data obtained in the research, which was carried out with the document review method, one of the qualitative research methods, was subjected to content and descriptive analysis and the results were presented with tables and graphics. According to the results obtained from the research, concepts in sociology textbooks are mostly gathered around the concepts of people and space, and they are related to the field of human and economic geography. It is recommended that such interdisciplinary studies be developed and carried out with different samples in terms of examining social facts and realities.
