Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) is refers to abnormal development of spherical femoral head capsule and asetebulum pit in which this capsule locates and the whole hip joint beside other soft tissues. DDH as it maybe congenital or may develop during babyhood or childhood. In time, it began to be used instead of Congenital Hip Dislocation which is signifying a narrower spectrum and only implying the congenital dislocations. Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip is more often diagnosed in baby girls, the first pregnancies, breech presentations and the babies who are swaddled or have any other orthopedic problem. Knowing these risk factors is significant for early diagnosis of Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip. In our country, hip ultrasonography is applied to the babies at risk by Screening Program and the babies who are diagnosed with having Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip are treated per the type of the disease and the age of the baby. The earlier the disease is diagnosed, the less surgical operations are needed. That is why it is important to diagnose it and start to the treatment as early as possible. Midwifes coming across the babies most often because of their occupation have important responsibilities in early diagnosis. They should have knowledge especially about the risk factors of Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip and by recognizing the babies having risk factors they should direct them for diagnosis and treatment.
