Abstract:

The studywith football players showed those players with higher scores in strength performance in inferiors members tended to be more agile and faster in the locomotion. The aim of the study was the evaluation of the existent relations between vertical jump tests and agility performance in football players. Twenty-seven football players (18,38±0,41years) from a team in region of Campinas, SP, participated in the study. Vertical jump ability: squat jump (SJ), countermovement jump (CMJ) and continuous jumps with 5 seconds of duration (CJ5s), and agility without ball (AB) and with ball (AwB) was used the Illinois Agility Test, were measured at the beginning of the training period. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed significant contribution of jumps tests performance in footballto variation in performance on the agility test (R2= 0,61; p < 0,0023). It was observed strong correlation for CJ5s expression with agility, and moderate correlation for SJ, CMJ with agility. As larger the strength is, lesser will be the time covered in agility test trajectory, consequently, the football players will be faster
