Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to determine the pre-service music teachers’ evaluation of the teaching practicum lesson led as distance education during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research group involved 10 students (7 women and 3 men) in total, who studied in the 4th grade in the Music Education Program of a state university. In this qualitative research, pre-service teachers were interviewed with semi-structured questions. During the interviews, participants were initially asked to evaluate the process in general. Next, they were asked to respond to questions regarding student participation, lesson structure, and the lesson’s contribution to their future professional life. Finally, the participants were asked to address the problems experienced in the process and possible solutions for these problems. As a result of the research, it was found that the pre-service teachers experienced shortcomings such as the inability to participate in a real classroom environment, the lack of face-to-face communication with the students, and not being able to experience classroom management and discipline aspects. And also, it was determined that the process offered beneficial experiences for the pre-service teachers in a way that they could experience the distance education from the teacher’s perspective and develop various digital tools and content that they might use in both face-to-face and online lessons during their future professional life.
