The debate on whether theatre translation belongs to the field of literary translation has evolved parallel to the concept of theatre translation itself. Thus, in opposition to the more “traditional” viewpoints which still consider theatre translation as part of literary translation due to readability, new voices have emerged which bring it closer to audiovisual translation because of the more “practical” nature of the texts. The aim of this paper, which is intended as a theorical revision of previous works, is to present both sides of this debate (which is a more intricate issue than it might seem) in order to enable the readers to make their own conclusions.
