Abstract The aim of the present paper is to present preliminary data on Polish authors translated into European Portuguese and published in book form between 1855 and 2010. The article begins with a brief elucidation of the object of study and operative definitions applied during the corpus selection. Subsequently, the paper provides answers to five questions concerning translated authors. The selected topics run as follows: (a) the total number of Polish authors translated into Portuguese, the frequency and possible reasons of their import into the Portuguese target system, (b) the evolution of their general profile overtime, (c) the identification of the most translated authors and, finally (d) the possible reasons behind the predominance of the most translated Polish authors on the Portuguese book market. The paper ends with a succinct presentation of conclusions and avenues for future research.
