Abstract:

In this study, it is aimed to determine the Turkish written language proficiency of the websites of the Provincial Directorates of Culture and Tourism (PDCT), which are responsible for the preservation of language, which is an element of culture, and the strengthening and effective marketing and management of the image of cities. To collect the data systematically and comprehensively The Turkish Written Language Scale was developed. A total of 48 items were included in the scale under three dimensions called spelling mistakes, expression disorders, and punctuation errors. All pages on the PDCT websites were examined and manual coding was made as "1" if there are errors in the relevant items, and "0" if not. In addition, the mistakes made are recorded on the basis of provinces to give examples. Descriptive level quantitative analyzes were applied to the data. Errors in spelling of capital letters, abbreviations, and compound words within the scope of spelling mistakes; misuse of the word, affix inaccuracy/excess/incompleteness, and errors related to conjunctions within the scope of expression disorder; the errors related to the use of apostrophes, commas and semicolons within the scope of punctuation errors were the most common errors. Findings on the basis of regions showed that the most mistakes in all three dimensions are made in Eastern Anatolia, Aegean, and Marmara regions, and the least mistakes are usually made in Central Anatolia Region.
