Geçmişten günümüze dek süregelen, sosyal bir olgu olarak göç, çeşitli dönemlerde çeşitli politikalarla gerçekleşmiş, her dönemde içerisinde bulunduğu toplumu sosyo-kültürel, ekonomik ve siyasal açıdan etkilemiştir. Çeşitli açılardan etkilenen toplumun, göç ve göçmen algısını etkileyen önemli unsurlardan biri hiç şüphesiz medya olmuştur. Ulusal, uluslararası ya da sosyal medya fark etmeksizin kullanılan dil, haberin sunuluş biçimi, göçmenlerin yerleştirildiği konum, küreselleşen dünyada toplumun göç olgusuna ve göçmenlere karşı bakış açısını olumlu ya da olumsuz biçimde etkilemiş, bu bakış açısında önemli bir yönlendirici konumunda olmuştur. Medya ve toplumda göçmen algısını öne sürmeyi amaçlayan bu çalışma, medyanın kullandığı dil göz önünde bulundurularak toplumda medyanın rolünü ve etkisini teorik bir çerçeve ile ortaya koymuştur. Çalışmada içerik analizi ve Teun Van Dick’ın geliştirmiş olduğu söylem analiziyle Türkiye’de yer alan basılı ve görsel medyada yer alan haberlere, sosyal medyada göç ve göçmenlere yönelik yer alan söylemlere ve göçmen deneyimlerine başvurulmuştur. Kümülatif bir alanda incelenen içerikler analiz edilerek medyanın söz konusu göç ve göçmenlik meselesinde toplum üzerinde nasıl bir etkisi olduğuna odaklanmıştır. Göç olgusu, medya tarafından toplumsal algılama üzerindeki en etkili güç olarak kabul edilir. Medya, göçmenlerin toplumda yarattığı olumsuz algıları pekiştirerek, göçmen karşıtı tutumların oluşmasına neden olabilir. Göçmen karşıtı tutumların temelinde yatan tehdit algısı, ancak göçmenlerle yakın bir temas kuruldukça azalması mümkün olacaktır.
Migration, as a social phenomenon that has persisted from the past to the present, has been realized through various policies in different periods, and it has had socio-cultural, economic, and political impacts on the society it has been a part of during each period. Media, undoubtedly, has been one of the significant factors influencing the perception of migration and immigrants within the society, regardless of whether it is national, international, or social media. The language used, the presentation of news, the location where immigrants are placed, and the globalization of the world have played a crucial role in shaping the society's attitude towards the phenomenon of migration and immigrants, either positively or negatively. This study, aiming to highlight the perception of immigrants in the media and society, theoretically frames the role and impact of the media, taking into consideration the language used by the media. Content analysis and discourse analysis developed by Teun Van Dijk were utilized to examine news in print and visual media related to migration and immigrants in Turkey, as well as the discourse on migration and immigrants in social media and the experiences of immigrants. By analyzing the content accumulated in this field, the study focused on understanding the influence of the media on society in the context of the issue of migration and immigration. The phenomenon of migration is considered the most influential force on social perception by the media. Media can reinforce negative perceptions of immigrants, leading to the formation of anti-immigrant attitudes. The underlying threat perception at the core of anti-immigrant attitudes is only likely to decrease when close contact is established with refugees.
