Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to identify the conditions of class teachers’ participation in the school management and to develop recommendations that will ensure their effective participation in the school management. The research work group consists of 24 class teachers and 7 school managers in the official primary schools in Istanbul in the 2018-2019 educational year. The research methods have been planned in the scientific pattern. The data of the study was obtained with the help of a conversation form consisting of a semi-configured 5 open end questions and analyzed using the content analysis technique. According to research findings, teachers participate in the school management through formal meetings, though partially. According to the management and teachers’ opinions, classmates’ effective participation in the school direction has a positive impact. However, the negative attitudes of managers and teachers, the lack of liability in managing appointments, the lack of communication between teachers, the lack of knowledge of the legal regulations and the lack of legal restrictions and the lack of desire of teachers, prevent the participation in the management. According to research findings, classmates are unable to provide effective participation in school management. When decisions are taken in school for class teachers' effective participation in the school management, it may be useful to take the teachers' ideas, inform them about the legal regulations and select qualified school managers.
