In this study according to literature methods, a new Schiff base derived from chloroaniline namely 2-[(2,5-dichlorophenylimino)methyl]phenol (CPMP) has been synthesized and investigated on mild steel in 1.0 M HCl solution at 298 K by using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), linear polarization resistance (LPR) and potentiodynamic polarization techniques. Nyquist curves have been obtained with the EIS and have been found to be semi-elliptical. In order to get information about the adsorption mechanism of CPMP, the potential of zero charge of metal is determined by using EIS. The CPMP’s adsorption to the mild steel surface has been seen to obey Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Thermodynamic adsorption parameters have been calculated using adsorption isotherm. The surface morphology of mild steel electrodes have been examined by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM), giving important information about surface morphology, surface roughness and surface elasticity. EIS and surface analysis results are supported each other.
