Edebi eleştirinin Türk edebiyatında müstakil bir tür olarak gelişim göstermesine zemin hazırlayan şahsiyetlerin başında gelen Nurullah Ataç, görüşleriyle devrinin kültür ve sanat hayatı üzerinde geniş çaplı tesirler uyandırdığı gibi kendisinden sonraki kuşakların düşünce dünyalarını da önemli ölçüde etkilemiştir. Nurullah Ataç’ın Türk edebiyatı tarihi ve düşünce geleneği içindeki konumunu merkeze alan akademik çalışmalarda, yazarın daha ziyade eleştirmen kimliğiyle dil anlayışı üzerinde durulduğu görülmektedir. Söz konusu değerlendirmelerde, Nurullah Ataç’ın edebiyat kuramı alanında ileri sürdüğü görüşlerin önemli ölçüde ihmal edildiği; estetiğin temel problemlerine ilişkin tartışmalar karşısındaki tavrının yeterince aydınlatılamadığı tespit edilebilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Nurullah Ataç’ın muhtelif eleştiri yazılarında dağınık bir biçimde ortaya koyduğu edebiyatla ilgili görüşlerini belirli başlıklar çerçevesinde derleyerek bir bütün halinde analiz etmek; bu suretle tutarlı ve gelişkin bir estetik kuramın banisi olduğu gerçeğini ortaya koymaktır. Ataç’ın, edebiyatın arkaik ve güncel sorunlarına yönelik yaklaşımını aydınlatmak ve ülkemizde yeterince gelişmemiş olduğu düşünülen sanat kuramı çalışmalarına sunduğu katkıları tartışmak, araştırmanın diğer hedefleri arasındadır.
Nurullah Ataç, who was the head of the personalities that prepared the ground for the development of literary criticism as a particular kind in Turkish literature, has significantly influenced the thinking worlds of the later generations as well as the cultural and artistic life of the revolution with its views. In academic studies focusing Nurullah Ataç’s position in the history and thought tradition of Turkish literature, it is seen that the author is focused on the language understanding with the identity of the critic rather than the critic. In these assessments, it can be found that the views that Nurullah Ataç has made in the field of literary theory are largely neglected; the attitude to the discussions on the basic issues of aesthetics cannot be sufficiently illuminated. The purpose of this study is to analyze in a whole by aggregating their opinions on literature, which Nurullah Ataç dispersed in his various criticism writings, in the framework of certain titles; thus to reveal the fact that a consistent and advanced aesthetic theory is the foundation. It is among the other objectives of the research to illuminate the approach to the archaeological and current issues of literature and to discuss the contribution it offers to the work of art theory, which is considered not sufficiently developed in our country.
