Orhan Pamuk in his first novel, Mr. Cevdet and His Sons, from 1905 to 1969 translates the influence of the westernization/modernization movement in the Turkish geography on the housing culture and in-house lifestyle, through a family life. The novel depicts the transition of the Lighting family from the accommodation to the apartment life and the contradictions that all this process generates, the spatial outputs, the changing domestic daily life practices and habits, in short, the individual-home relationships. In this direction, basically, the narrative focused on three time spheres and three generations brings light on both social and personal meaning complexities and spatial experiences in the housing. Given the place becoming a "place" with personal feelings and experiences, the novel contains many clues about the home life, the acceptance of the house as a place and the feeling of belonging to the house. In addition, the time context of the story also focuses on how the process of modernization/Westernization influences the spatial practices in the home life, referring to a period in which the individual-spatial relationships are restored. In this direction, this study, which is about reading the interaction that the person establishes with the house through the concept of spatial membership, aims to study the individual-home relationships of the main heroes of the novel Mr. Cevdet and His Sons and the transformations of these relationships during that period. Considering that the feeling of affection is associated with the actions of self-realizing and self-finding, it is expected that the feelings of the romance heroes about home will be a guide in terms of individual-space interaction.

Cevdet Bey ve Oğulları, the first novel of Orhan Pamuk, narrates housing culture and everyday life shaped by modernization in Turkey between 1905 to 1969. The novel examines the life of Işıkçı family from mansion to apartment by focusing their practices and habits, their social contradictions and its spatial reflections between people and home in this period of modernization. Accordingly, the focus of the novel brings out both social and personal inquiries and spatial experiences in housing. The concept of "place" makes sense with feelings and experiences. Because the temporal context of the novel refers to a period in which human-space relations are reconstructed, the novel contains many clues about accepting the home as a "place" with these feelings. Accordingly, this study, which focuses on reading the interaction of the person with the home through the concept of place attachment, aims to examine the changing person-home relations of the main characters of Cevdet Bey ve Oğulları during modernization. Considering that the place attachment is related to the self-realization, it is expected that the feelings of the characters about their homes will be guiding in terms of these relations.
