Abstract Sports information has a great social demand in Spain. However, despite the fact that men and women are interested in this type of publication, and that both practice sports, the Spanish media focus almost exclusively on covering sporting events featuring men. This research focuses on analyzing the visibility given to female sports compared to male sports and knowing what degree of inequality exists between both sexes in the digital press through a content analysis methodology. It is shown that women's sport is totally invisible in the Spanish sports digital press (Marca and AS) studied and that, to date, no measures are being taken to improve the situation suffered by athletes or to achieve effective equality between genders. The contributions made highlight the need for specific measures to be implemented regarding the dissemination of sports information at the national level, to ensure that women's sport is more present in the media and that there is less stereotyped media treatment and a use of egalitarian informational space.
