Non-governmental organization as a concept, is first seen in the works of Aristotle and Plato, but at that time it was considered together with the concept of state. In the modern sense, non-governmental organization is defined as an organized community that exists under the authority of a state and lives by law, independent from the state, that is, autonomous and based on volunteering. In this case, non-governmental organizations (NGO) first appeared in Europe and America, then they spread fast to the rest of world according to their own workspaces. Sometimes, these organizations appear to be more effective over the political power of these countries.Working styles of these organizations in those countries are usually as remote controling through local non-governmental organizations that they took role in establishing or by the self activities of them, especially in the regions which called as third world countries. Non governmental organizations, which are called the fifth power after the legislature, executive, judiciary and media in today’s world. In this direction, it is observed that non-governmental organizations, which are under the influence of external forces from time to time or lead the establishment of these forces directly, are also involved in the internal affairs of another country. In this paper; activities of The American non-governmental organizations, which comprise a great deal of the world’s non-governmental organizations, in Turkey are considered from a historical perspective.
