Abstract:

The main problem of this study is to evaluate the reading motivation of secondary school students in terms of various variables. An answer to this main problem was sought within the sub-problems. These variables are respectively; general and internal reading motivation levels, gender, grade level, presence of own mobile phone, availability of own room, heating type of the house, presence of library at home, daily internet usage time, daily reading time, and pre-school education period. There is no study in the literature examining the reading intrinsic motivation of secondary schools in Kırşehir, so this study has important to fill this gap in the literature. The sample of the research, which was carried out in the descriptive and relational scanning model, consists of 997 people determined by case sampling from 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students studying at secondary schools in Kırşehir in the 2021-2022 academic year. “Personal Information Form” and “Reading Motivation Scale” were used to collect data for the research. As a result of the study, the reading motivation levels of secondary school students are high, students are more sincerely motivated to read. However, it was observed that the students’ intrinsic reading motivation was affected by the variables.
