Abstract:

Since the 1970s, the changes and transformations created by neoliberal policies in the social state concept have directed the attention to the concept of social urbanism. Today, as well as its disadvantages and the advantages are discussed, the globalization phenomenon, along with the development of local governments, has a positive contribution to social balance in society. With these transformations, local governments have increased their responsibilities for ensuring social integration of disabled groups. The research is aimed at identifying the impacts of local governments towards ensuring social integration of disabled people in the Izmir province. In this context, the work and projects carried out by the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, which has important responsibilities as local administration in the social integration of disabled individuals, have been deeply focused. In the study first literature scan was done and then the method of document analysis analyzed the strategic plans and activity reports of the Metropolitan Municipality of İzmir and the information was identified. In addition, it has been interviewed with the Director of the Disabled Services Branch of the Metropolitan Municipality of İzmir with a semi-configured conversation form. The study has sought to determine the effects of education, health, employment, social assistance and social-cultural activities for disabled individuals.
