Maksilla kanserleri; Üç Yanlış Teşhis Vakası ve Literatür Taraması
2020
Journal:
Osmangazi Tıp Dergisi
Author:
Abstract:

Maxilla Cancer: Three Misdiagnostic Cases and Literature Screening
2020
Author:
Abstract:

Maxilla cancers are rare and make up 0.5-5% of oral cancers in anatomical classification. Many studies have studied mouth emptiness, but there are a few studies that investigate the cancer of the mushrooms. If the distinctive diagnoses are not well known, the diagnosis may be delayed and the result of the misdiagnosis may change the course of the disease and the treatment will be delayed. In this retrospective study, it is aimed at bringing recommendations on the diagnosis and treatment of maxilla cancers, and at the same time highlighting the importance of dental medicine. The diagnosis was misdiagnosed and due to the mistreatment of 3 female patients with clinical, radiological and histopathological diagnoses were determined by predisposing factors. Dental examinations were made before cancer treatment. Healthy survival, quality of life and treatment were compared with other phenomena in literature. The patients were aged 36, 57 and 59, and all patients were submitted to maxillectomy. Histopathologically, adenocystic carcinoma and SCC have been detected. While two patients were treated with pre-operative radiotherapy and chemotherapy, one patient was subjected to postoperative adjuvant treatment. Patients who did not receive radiotherapy were obturated. Patients are treated as in literature and their survivors are high. The absence of predisposing factors such as smoking and alcohol in both patients and the focus on dental problems before the diagnosis of cancer shows the importance of distinguishing diagnosis. The role of dentists in the diagnosis and treatment of maxilla cancer is great and it is believed that every phenomenon that is shared will contribute to this.

Cancers Of The Maxilla; Three Misdiagnosis Cases and Review Of The Literature
2020
Author:
Abstract:

Cancer of the maxilla is uncommon and constitutes 0.5-5% of oral cancers on anatomical classification. Many studies have researched the oral cavity, but there are few studies investigating maxillary carcinoma. If differential diagnoses are not well known, the diagnosis may be delayed and the misdiagnosis may result in loss of time and the course of the disease may interfere with treatment. In this retrospective study, it was aimed to make recommendations in the diagnosis and treatment of maxillary cancers and also to take attention to its importance in terms of dentistry. Clinical, radiological and histopathological diagnosis and predisposing factors of 3 female patients who had been misdiagnosed and thought to have dental problems for a long time were determined. Dental evaluations were performed before cancer treatment. Survival, quality of life and treatment were compared with other cases in the literature. The ages of the patients were 36, 57 and 59 and all patients underwent maxillectomy. Adenocystic carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma were detected histopathologically. Two patients were treated preoperatively via radiotherapy and chemotherapy, whereas one patient received postoperative adjuvant therapy. The obturator was applied to the patient who did not receive radiotherapy. The patients were treated as in the literature and their survival was high. The lack of predisposing factors such as smoking and alcohol in two patients and focusing on dental problems before the diagnosis of cancer reveal the importance of differential diagnosis. The role of dentists in the diagnosis and treatment of maxilla cancer is great and it is thought that the contribution of each case will be shared.
