Abstract:

From May 22, 1950, when the Menderes Government was established, to May 27, 1960, when the government was removed by the coup, the contribution of cotton agriculture in Turkey to the economy in the context of production and trade is the subject of the article. The study was handled with numerical data in two titles in the form of cotton production (1950-1960) and cotton trade (1950-1960) during the Menderes period. The sources of the article are: Republic Archive Documents, Turkish Grand National Assembly Laws and Legislative Magazines, Zabıt Ceridesi, Official Gazette, History of the Month, Statistical Years, Agricultural and Economic Magazines. During the examination of the subject, the necessary assessments were made taking into account the developments in the Menderes period Turkey and the world's cotton agriculture. After the Menderes administration arrived in power, work on the development of cotton plant and trade was started. In the first phase, brick and selector machines developed with the capacity to compete with the world’s emissions, as well as saving costs and energy, have expanded the volume of work. In addition, a meeting was held in Ankara on 15 March 1951 in order to consult the state of cotton in October, production, domestic market and export and find ways to solve its problems. Furthermore, the implementation of high price policy in the fight and purchase of the so-called crops with the irrigation, seed irrigation and damages has caused the production and export to contribute to the national economy.
