Abstract:

The National Opinion Movement has appeared on the political stage of Turkey since the beginning of the 1970s. Established by this movement, respectively, the National Nizam Party, the National Salam Party, the Reef Party and the Fazilet Party have experienced problems with the rigorous secular republican regime and are closed with the claim that they are threatened to the secular regime. The Party of Justice and Development, which claims that the political tradition is continuous in terms of personality but is separate from it, has been in power for eighteen years while being subjected to the closing case. In this study, the continuity and gap of these two movements were attempted to be identified. For this purpose, the program, statements, policies and practices of the parties concerned have been studied, and because they are figures with a political influence over their parties, the leaders of these two movements have been attempted to reveal the personal political background of Necmettin Erbakan and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In this study, the National Opinion Movement has come to the conclusion that the Justice and Development Party has a more nationalist-conservative structure than an Islamist.
