İnsanoğlu, iletişimi kolaylaştırmak, duygu ve düşüncelerini daha iyi anlatabilmek ve anlaşılabilmek, bir gerçeği gözler önüne sermek amacıyla çeşitli yollara başvurmuş ve bu çerçevede de sembollerden yararlanmıştır. Duygu ve düşüncelerin ifadesinde dilin yetersiz kaldığı durumlar, bireylerin algılama seviyelerindeki farklılıklar ve âlim ve ilimle halk arasında bir köprü kurma amacı sembollerin ortaya çıkmasına vesile olan önemli amillerdendir. Sembollerin karşımıza çıktığı en önemli alanlardan biri dindir. En eski medeniyetlerden beri insanlar din konusunda semboller kullanmışlar ve bütün dinler sembollerden aktif bir şekilde yararlanmıştır. Bütün dinler, tüm inanç sistemleri, muhataplarına hitap ederken anlaşılması zor, derin anlamlar içeren hususları kolay bir şekilde aktarabilmek, bunların anlaşılıp özümsenmesini sağlayabilmek için sembollerden faydalanmıştır. İslamiyet’te sembolik dilin ise Kur’an-ı Kerim ile başladığı söylenebilir. Kur’an’nın pek çok sure ve ayetinde sembollerden yararlanılmış, ayetlerde geçen Allah ile ilgili anlatımlar, bizzat Allah’tan ve Allah’ın sıfatlarından bahsederken sembolizme dayanmıştır. Hacı Bektaş Veli, Köprülü’nün, “bir buhran ve intikal asrı” olarak nitelediği XIII. yüzyılın üç önemli şahsiyetinden biridir. O, Anadolu’nun dinî-tasavvufi hayatının şekillenmesinde ve bu coğrafyanın Türkleşmesinde mühim bir rol üstlenmiştir. Duygu ve düşüncelerinin en iyi biçimde anlaşılmasının sağlayacak olan Makâlât’ta Hacı Bektaş Veli, dört kapı ve kırk makamı açıklamıştır. Bu bağlamda kapılar ve bu kapıların her birinde yer alan on makamın neler olduğu birer birer anlatılmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra eserde, insanlara birtakım konularda öğütler verilmiş, yapılması gereken işler belirtilmiştir. Makalede Hacı Bektaş Veli’nin Makalat’ta kullandığı semboller tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. O, eserinde, İslamiyet’in kural ve kaidelerini, riayet edilmesi gereken hususları, Müslüman’ın sahip olması gereken vasıfları, yapması gereken fiilleri, Allah’a ulaşma yolunda izlenmesi gereken yolları aktarmış ve bunu yaparken de zaman zaman sembollerden yararlanmıştır. Hacı Bektaş Veli, Makâlât’ta, hem Dinî-Tasavvufî edebiyatta hem de Alevî-Bektaşî edebiyat geleneğinde karşımıza çıkan kavramların yanı sıra birtakım kavramaları da sembolleştirmiş ve kendine özgü bir sembolik dil de oluşturmuştur.

The circumstances in which the language remains insufficient in the expression of emotions and thoughts, the differences in the levels of perception of individuals and the purpose of building a bridge between science and science and the people is one of the important acts in which the symbols appear. One of the most important areas in which symbols come to us is religion. Since the most ancient civilizations, people have used symbols on religion and all religions have actively benefited of symbols. All religions, all religious systems, have been used by symbols to be able to easily translate the facts of deep meaning, which are difficult to understand when addressing their interlocutors, to ensure that they are understood and absorbed. The symbolic language in Islam can be said that the Qur’an begins with Kerim. Many of the Qur’an’s sures and verses have been used by symbols, and the stories about Allah in the verses have been based on symbolism when it speaks of Allah and of Allah’s righteousness. Hacı Bektaş Veli, which the bridge describes as "a brick and intical century." He is one of the three major characters of the century. He has played an important role in the formation of the religious-tasavvufi life of Anadolu and in the turquoise of this geography. In the Makalat, which will ensure the best understanding of his feelings and thoughts, the Hacı Bektaş Veli has explained four doors and forty offices. In this context, the doors and the ten offices in each of these doors are described one by one. In addition, in the work, people have been given advice on a number of matters, what should be done. In the article, the symbols used by Hacı Bektaş Veli in Makalat were tried to be identified. In his work, he translated the rules and claims of Islam, the aspects to be observed, the qualities to be possessed by the Muslim, the facts to be done, the ways to be followed in the way to God, and while doing so, he also used symbols from time to time.
