Abstract:

Abstract Leftist thought in 1960’s were spread among intellectuals, workers and university students by the effect of the atmosphere brought by the new constitution and increasing numbers of university students and workers. In the 1960’s different currents of thought and leftist parties emerged and there has been debates among them. The intellectual issue is at the center of these debates in which questions like whether Turkey’s social structure is ready for a revolution, which role social classes can play in the revolution, whether revolution can occur through parliamentarian ways were asked. The issue of the intellectual has been discussed under the heading of military-civilian groups of intellectuals and cannot go beyond this framework. The interpretations of the role of the military and civilian groups of intellectuals in the revolution are directly related to the left's relationship with Kemalism, its interpretation of the Republican revolutions and the understanding of socialism. In this article, Turkish left’s approach to the issue of the intellectual is handled by looking at how this debate was conducted in Yön-Devrim Movement, Workers Party of Turkey and National Democratic Revolution movements, which were the three main streams of the period, through the primary texts. In this framework, the journals published by the movements, the books they wrote and the papers were searched, analyzed and evaluated.
