Abstract:

Bourdieu who is one of the leading figures of the sociology area in the last 50 years is known for combining sociology with informations which come from different disciplines. Bourdieu thinks that sociology should carry a critical position. Bourdieu has a structural and constructivist approach which balances the individual action and the social structure with an emphasis on both society and the individual. Bourdieu had created a conceptual paradigm which includes the interaction of the concepts known as habitus, field and capital. He also had a critical stance amongst other intellectuals in a time period which had seen the rising influence of the neoliberal thoughts. Bourdieu’s sociology carries a great importance for social work theory and practice.In this article the main concepts of Bourdieu’s sociology are mentioned and their importance for the social work is discussed. Consequently, the need to understand the concepts of Bourdieu and his stance against neoliberalism is important for social work profession and these issues are pointed out in the article.
