Abstract:

Values education, the signs of which have been seen in the history of Turkish education with the declaration of the Constitutional Monarchy II, and which has been frequently mentioned in recent years, offers a cultural way against the need for structuring both the Turkish education system and various teaching programs. Values education exhibits a strong potential in terms of maintaining the culture, art, customs, and traditions of Turkish society and carrying them to the next generations. In order to use this power with the right methods, researches on values education in the field of education should be diversified and organized in a systematic structure because conscious societies need to renew their education policies depending on rapidly changing living conditions and tend to seek education that aims to be shaped according to their own culture. At this point, values education stands out as a subject that educators emphasize. Music educators have the opportunity to turn both theoretical and practical courses in their teaching programs into an important study opportunity on the basis of values education. Current research on values education, especially on the lyrics of Turkish music pieces and school songs, indicates that these opportunities are being utilized. It is also worth noting that the fact that there are almost no studies linking values education, and music education in Turkey shows that there is a significant need for studies in this field.
