Displaced supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children were treated surgically by open reduction and internal fixation through a posterior approach without dividing triceps muscle in between 2000 and 2008. There were 27 patients with Gartland type III fractures including 19 male and 8 female. The age was from 2 to 14 years old with the average of 7.1 years. At the final follow-up (mean, 21.8 months), 25 patients (92%) had excellent and two patient ([8%) had good cosmetic result, while 23 patients (85%) had an excellent and four patient (15%) functional results according to Flynn’s criteria. We think that this procedure could be performed safely and reliably for displaced supracondylar fracture of the humerus in children.
