It is assumed that students in the department of Turkish Folk Dances do not receive sufficient education on music field knowledge, musical behavior patterns, teaching knowledge and professional teaching knowledge. Teachers can fulfill the competencies required for this profession only through a good education and having faith that they can perform their duties. It is very important to what extent pre-service teachers improve themselves professionally and to what extent they consider themselves as competent. A self-confident pre-service teacher will be closer to success. To this end, this study aims to investigate music training self-sufficiency levels of senior students, determine their problems and ideas/thoughts on this issue. Furthermore, research findings are of importance as it lays ground for further studies to be conducted on curriculum of music training in department of Turkish Folk Dances and will be a guide for further arrangements. Qualitative survey model was used in this research. Interviewing method was used as research method and interview form was used to collect data. The research group consisted of 28 senior students in the department of Turkish Folk Dances and were studying in State Conservatory at Dicle University in 2013-2014 academic years. It was found that students have various problems as follow; the undergraduate education for music field knowledge, musical behavior patterns, teaching knowledge and professional teaching knowledge are not sufficient; they do not have confidence in their musical background knowledge and music application skills. The data obtained from this research indicate music training self-sufficiency scores of senior students in the department of Turkish Folk Dances are low. However, high level of self-sufficiency scores of pre- service teachers is an indicator of the fact that they are eager to learn more and feel more responsible.
