The purpose of the present study was to compare the acute effect of static stretching and joint mobility exercises on the back-squat range-of-motion. Twenty subjects of both sexes participated in the study, which is physically active and apparently healthy. Participants performed two protocols in randomized order, conducted by the Latin square technique: 1) stretching exercises (PEA) and 2) joint mobility exercises (PEM). PEA understood rotational exercises ankle with an elastic band, in a single set with 10-rep on each side of the body. PEM to the ankle consisted of joint movements of plantar flexion and dorsiflexion of the ankle in the sagittal plane, where the participant remained sitting or lying supine with knees flexed to minimize the action of the hamstrings, where the participant held a single set with 10-rep. PEM for the hip consisted of joint mobility exercises performed in a squatting position, in a single set with 30-sec. Regarding the intergroup comparison, there were no significant differences between the pre-moments (p = 0.285) and between the post-moments (p = 0.131). In conclusion, both techniques appear to be effective modalities for acute gains in the back-squat movement pattern. These results have good practical applicability in both performance and rehabilitation scenarios, especially with regard to the overall effects of both techniques.
