Zekâ kişinin anlama, kavrama, öğrenme kapasitesine göre sınıflandırılan bir ölçüttür. Bireylerin zekâsını etkileyen faktörler iki gruba ayrılır. Bunlardan birincisi genetik faktörlerdir ikincisi ise çevresel faktörlerdir. Zekâ kavramının ölçülmesi için uzun yıllardır çalışmalar devam etmektedir. Tarihte yapılanilk zekâ ölçüm adına yapılan test Dr. Simon ve AlfredBinet tarafından 1905 senesinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Fakat tarih boyu zekâ ölçümünde yaşanan gelişmeler geleneksel yöntemlerin önüne geçerek farklı boyutlara ulaşmıştır. Zekâ kavramını Çoklu Zekâ Kuramıyla ispatlayan Gardner bu kuram ile geleneksel yöntemleri çürüterek zekânın tek bir faktöre dayalı olmayacağını savunmuştur ve bunun yanında zekâ kavramının çok sayıda yetenekleri de barındırdığı görüşünü savunmaktadır. Geçmişte zekâ ölçüm testlerinin ortaya çıkması ile bu testler öncelikle üstün zekâlı bireylere uygulanmıştır. Üstün yetenekli kişilere var olan yetenekleri doğrultusunda gerekli eğitimlerin verilmesi adına çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Ülkemizde yapılan 2000 yılında gerçekleştirilen nüfus sayımı sonucunda 0-18 yaş aralığındaki bireylerin yaklaşık olarak 519 bin kişinin üstün yetenekli bireyler olduğu düşünülmektedir. Üstün zekâlı çocukların eğitimi için öncelikle bu çocukların tespit edilmesi gerekir. Bu bireylerin hangi alanlarda yetenekleri olduğu kategorize edildikten sonra doğru yönlendirmeler yapılarak onların gelişimi sağlanmalıdır. Bu sayede bu bireyler toplum ile uyum sağlayarak kişisel sorumluluk ve görevleri dâhilinde kaliteli bir yaşam sürdürebilirler. Bu kişilerin topluma kazandırılmasında en büyük görev sorumluluk anne, baba ve öğretmenlere aittir. Bununla birlikte üstün yetenekli öğrencilerin sosyal bilinç çerçevesinde almış oldukları Sosyal Bilgiler eğitiminin onların akademik başarılarına da etki edeceği düşünülmektedir. Yapmış olduğumuz bu çalışmada zekâ kavramının temeline değinerek sosyal bilimler eğitiminin üstün yetenekli öğrencelerin akademik başarıları üzerine etkisini araştırmayı hedefledik.
Intelligence is a measure that is classified according to the understanding, understanding, learning capacity of a person. Factors affecting the individual’s intelligence are divided into two groups. The first is genetic factors and the second is environmental factors. For many years, we have been working to measure the concept of intelligence. The first intelligence measurement in history was conducted by Dr. Simon and AlfredBinet in 1905. But the developments in intelligence measurement throughout history have reached different dimensions by passing the traditional methods. Gardner, who has demonstrated the concept of intelligence with the Multiple Intelligence Theory, has defended that intelligence will not be based on a single factor by distorting the traditional methods, and it also defends that the concept of intelligence also contains many abilities. In the past, with the appearance of intelligence measurement tests, these tests were primarily applied to superior intelligence individuals. The study was conducted in order to provide the necessary training in accordance with the skills available to the highest-talent people. According to the population census made in 2000 in our country, about 519 thousand individuals between 0 and 18 years of age are considered to be superior-talent individuals. To educate high-intelligence children, these children must first be identified. After these individuals are categorized in which fields they have abilities, their development must be guaranteed by making the right guidelines. Thus, these individuals can live a quality life within their personal responsibilities and tasks by adapting to society. The greatest responsibility in giving these people to society belongs to the mother, father and teacher. However, it is believed that the social knowledge education that superior talented students receive in the framework of social awareness will also affect their academic achievements. In this study we have done, we aimed at researching the impact of social science education on academic achievements of superior skilled students.
