Abstract:

A population movement takes place in the Hejaz region every year due to the pilgrimage, which is a religious assumption for Muslims. Since 1517, the safety of the pilgrimage caravans and the determination of the routes have taken place under the auspices of the Ottoman Empire. Some Ottoman authors wrote a work that depicts their pilgrimage impression. Pilgrimage travelbooks are evaluated in two different types, namely menasik-i hac and menazil-i hac. Pilgrimage travelbooks are significant in terms of providing information about the places visited during the trip, being a guide for those who want to go on a pilgrimage and telling the travel of the author. One of the texts written in this type is Bahri's verse work, in which he mentioned about the ranges from Üsküdar to Şam. There is no mention in the sources of a person who wrote the pilgrimage among the poets who used the pseudonym Bahri. It is believed that the writer lived after the 17th century by looking at the places where the pilgrimage lingered during the journey. The poet without clear information about him, performed the pilgrimage as it is understood from the text. This text has a range feature as it gives brief information about the places visited during the pilgrimage. The text in question was written in the form of mesnevi, and very brief information was given about the ranges visited. A plain and understandable language was preferred in the work, which was written without an art concern. In this article, firstly, Bahrî's pilgrimage is introduced and then the related mesnevi is examined the text of the work is presented.
