Background and aims: Angiodysplasia is an important cause of lower gastrointestinal bleeding which occurs most commonly in the right side of the colon, usually in the elderly but sometimes in younger adults. Materials and methods: Two hundred and five patients who were investigated by total colonoscopy because of iron deficiency anemia during 1997-2002 were included in the study group. Results: Eighty-eight (42.9%) of our patients were male and one hundred and seventeen (57.1%) were female. We found that two or more segments of the colon were affected, most commonly in the left side. Concomitant pathological findings in the bowel were diagnosed in patients: inflammation in 21%, diverticula in 13.2%, polyp in 19% and carcinomas in 2.4%.
