Abstract:

The agricultural sector is the primary sector in terms of food production and supply of raw materials to the industrial sector for the continuity of life. The concept of working in agriculture includes employees in their own agricultural production field, employers/both owners, paid permanent workers, seasonal workers and all the family members because they live/work together. Research shows that farming workers have increased the frequency of mental disorders, including environmental dangers such as unhealthy water, waste, agricultural tools and machines, pesticides, animal-related factors, non-access to service, ergonomic dangers and psychosocial stresses, as well as economic crises and global climate change-related depression. It is known that poor weather conditions during the harvest period, the unprecedented product due to flood and drought, the damage of machines, the illness of animals, the failure to pay in time and sufficient levels of incentives, the low level of knowledge and awareness of employees about the financing management and new technologies, the unaccess to services, physical health problems, hot stress, the unknowledge of agricultural laws, the absence of holidays, long working hours, the growth of farms, the increased demand for production against the reduced number of farmers, accidents and injuries are important work-related stress sources. For the prevention of mental disorders of workers in agriculture, it is believed that risk assessment and management will be beneficial in a way that will include physical, chemical and psychosocial dangers, and in a right-based approach that will also include social protection (social security, social aid and social services).
