BANDIRMA ARKEOLOJİ MÜZESİ’NDE YER ALAN BİZANS DÖNEMİNE AİT BRONZ HAÇLAR

Bu makale kapsamında Bandırma Arkeoloji Müzesi koleksiyonunda yer alan on adet bronz haç incelenmiştir. Çalışmamız sırasında haçlar, kilisede kullanılan ve boyunda asılarak taşınan pandantif haçlar olmak üzere iki grup altında ele alınmıştır. Haçların tamamı döküm tekniğinde yapılmış ve üzerlerindeki süslemeler kazıma tekniği ile oluşturulmuştur. Adak haçı, olarak değerlendirilen eserin üzerinde Grekçe yazıt vardır. Bu bakımdan önemlidir. Bandırma Arkeoloji Müzesi’nde bulunan dokuz adet pandantif haç kollarının biçimine göre, yassı, silindirik ve dairesel olarak gruplandırılmıştır. Yassı kolu pandantif haçların bir grubu üzerinde kazıma tekniği oluşturulmuş iç içe daire motifleri vardır. Bu tür süslemeli haçların Bizans toplumunda oldukça beğenildiğini yüzyıllar boyunca kullanıldığı anlaşılmaktadır. Söz konusu haçlar öncelikle Bizans dünyasındaki genel özelikleri ile ele alınmış, sonrasında bezerleri ile karşılaştırılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Buluntu yerleri bilinmeyen müzeye satın alma yoluyla kazandırılan bu eserlerin tarihlendirme önerileri de çok yakın benzerleri üzerinden yapılmıştır. Arkeolojik alanların Bizans tabakalarında olduğu kadar, müzeler ve özel koleksiyonlarda sıklıkla yer alan objeler Bizans dini yaşamına ilişkin somut belgeler olarak Bizans yaşam kültürü ve alışkanlıklarını algılamamızı kolaylaştırır.

Abstract:

In the framework of this article, ten bronze crosses included in the collection of the Bandırma Archaeological Museum have been studied. During our work, the crosses were addressed under two groups, including the pendant crosses used in the church and moved on their height. All of the crosses were made in the casting technique and the decorations on them were created with the casting technique. There is a Greek writing on the work considered as the Adak Cross. It is important in this regard. According to the shape of the nine pandantive cross arms found in the Archaeological Museum of Bandırma, they are grouped flat, cylindrical and circularly. A group of flat-handed pandantif crosses have the in-house apartment motifs created with the mining technique. It is clear that this kind of decorated crosses have been used for centuries to be quite popular in the Byzantine society. These crosses were first treated with their general characteristics in the Byzantine world, and then compared with their spots. The findings of these works, which were awarded through the purchase of the unknown places to the museum, were also presented through very close similarities. As in the Byzantine layers of archaeological areas, the objects often found in museums and private collections make it easier for us to perceive the Byzantine culture and habits of life as concrete documents about Byzantine religious life.

In this article ten Byzantine crosses were examined took placed in Bandırma Archaeology Museum collection. During the study, the crosses were handled under two groups as, used in the church and used in necklace as pendant crosses. The crosses are made by casting technique and the decorated by incised. There is a Greek inscription on the cross which is considered as votive cross. It is important in this respect. The nine pendant crosses found in the Bandırma Archaeology Museum are grouped as flat, cylindrical and circular according to the shaped of their arms. One a group of pendant crosses with flat arms there are concentric circle motifs created with incised technique. It is understood that this kind of ornamented crosses were highly appreciated in Byzantine society and used for centuries. The crosses were first discussed with their general characteristics in the Byzantine world and then compared with their similar ones. Dating suggestions for some of these purchased artworks with unknown provenance were offered by their close equivalents.
