Earlier in the 1990s, Henrik Kehlet’s work on Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) defines patient-oriented, evidence-based medical, perioperative interventions. This concept is managed by multidisciplinary teams, which include a variety of fields of expertise in order to reduce the patient's surgical stress response, to correct their physiological functions and to facilitate healing. These patient care and intervention concepts in a whole form the periods and stages of the patient’s leaving home, hospitalization, preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases of the surgeon, as well as the periods and stages of the patient’s leaving home. With the use of the ERAS protocols, a reduction in periopathic and postoperative complications, a significant improvement in patient survival and quality of care and patient satisfaction has been achieved. Today, protocols on this subject have been created in order to further enhance these developments in various areas of surgical specialization, and many health institutions provide services based on this concept. The purpose of this study is to disclose medical information based on the evidence arising from the current literature and protocols on the subject.
