Bu çalışma yeniden çeviri bağlamında bir kısa öyküden oluşan kaynak metin ile farklı dönemlerde gerçekleştirilmiş çevirilerinin karşılaştırmalı olarak incelenmesini amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmada Amerikan edebiyatının önemli isimlerinden Edgar Allan Poe’nun ilk kez 1846 yılında yayımlanan “The Cask of Amontillado” başlıklı kısa öyküsünün Türkçeye gerçekleştirilen altı farklı çevirisi incelenmiştir. İncelenen çevirilerden ikisi sırasıyla 1982 ve 1985 yıllarında gerçekleştirilmiş olup diğer dört çevirinin ikisi 2016 ve diğer ikisi de 2018 yıllarında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Metinlerin karşılaştırılması sürecinde ise Gideon Toury’nin erek odaklı çeviri kuramı çerçevesinde ortaya çıkardığı “yeterlilik” ve “kabul edilebilirlik” kavramları ölçüt olarak belirlenmiştir. Bu amaçla seçilen cümlelerin ise özellikle yeniden çeviri bağlamında Koskinen’in ileri sürdüğü yeniden çevirilerin “orijinale daha yakın”, “daha doğru” ve “daha tam” olarak nitelendirilebileceği görüşü çerçevesinde değerlendirilmesi de uygun görülmüştür. Çalışmanın bulgularının kaynak metinden seçilen cümlelerin çevirmen kararları doğrultusunda incelenmesinin çevirmenlerin ne ölçüde yeterli ya da kabul edilebilir çeviriler ürettiklerini ortaya çıkarabileceği düşünülmektedir. Böylece hangi çevirilerin kaynak dil ya da erek dil kutbuna daha yakın durdukları da anlaşılabilir. Çalışmadan çıkan bulguların çevirinin doğası gereği çeviri sürecinde karşılaşılan zorluklara karşı çevirmenlerin tepkilerini yansıtması beklenmektedir. Böylece zamanla çevirmenlerin verdikleri kararlarda bir farklılaşmanın olup olmadığı da ortaya çıkarılabilir. Bu bağlamda yeniden çeviriler üzerinde yürütülecek gelecekteki çalışmalar için verimli olabilecek bulgular elde edilebilir. Yeniden çevirilerin bazı durumlarda kaynak kutba diğerlerinde ise erek kutba yakın durdukları gözlemlenmiştir. This study aims to compare the translations made in different periods with the source text consisting of a short story in the context of re-tradition. The study examined the six different translations of Edgar Allan Poe’s short story titled “The Cask of Amontillado” first published in 1846. Two of the revised translations were performed in 1982 and 1985 respectively, and the other four translations were performed in 2016 and the other two in 2018. In the process of comparing texts, the concepts of "quality" and "acceptability" that Gideon Toury revealed in the framework of the man-oriented translation theory were determined as a standard. It was also appropriate to evaluate the sentences selected for this purpose, in particular in the context of re-translation, in the context of the view that the re-translations proposed by Koskinen could be described as "more close to the original", "more accurate" and "more accurate". The study’s findings are considered to be examined in accordance with the translator’s decisions to show how sufficient or acceptable translations are produced by the translators. So it can also be understood which translations are closer to the source language or the male language. Due to the nature of the translation of the findings from the study, it is expected that the translators will reflect their responses to the difficulties faced in the translation process. So it can also be revealed in time whether there is a differentiation in the decisions the translators make. In this context, findings can be obtained that it will be effective for future studies that will be carried out on reversals. In some cases, the translations have been observed in the source poles, while in other cases, the male poles have been closely observed. This study aims to make a comparative analysis of a source text consisting of a short story and its translations at different times in the context of re-translation. For this purpose, six different Turkish translations of the short story “The Cask of Amontillado”, which was written and published in 1846 by Edgar Allan Poe, one of the most eminent figures of American literature have been examined. Of the six examined translations, two were published in 1982 and 1985, while The other four translations were published in 2016 (two of them) and 2018 (the remaining two). In the comparison process of the translations, two concepts, namely “adequacy” and “acceptibility” were considered as the main criteria, which were arose from the target oriented translation theory of Gideon Toury. Sentences or clauses which were chosen for this purpose were fit to be assessed according to framework of the view by Koskinen, who claimes that re-translations are “closer” to the original”, “truer” and “more complete”. It is considered that the analysis of the findings obtained from comparative analysis of the source text with its translations on the basis of translators’ decisions will reveal whether the translations are “adequate” or “acceptible”. By doing so, we will be able to find out whichtranslated texts seem to stand closer to the source or to target texts. It is expected that the findings obtained at the end of the study would reflect the responses of the translators against the issues confronted during the translation process by the very nature of translation itself. Thus we can find out if there are any changes in the translators’ decisions over a period of time. According to the findings it has been found that some of re-translations stand close to the source text while the others stand close to the target text.
