The aim of this study is to explore the role of mental endurance and perfectionism in addressing the uncertainty of athletes between the ages of 18 and 30 and in different branches. The study included a total of 219 athletes (year-old = 21,21±2,72) voluntarily, including 123 women (age = 21,21±2,71), 96 men (age = 21,56±2,75) and 219 women (age = 21,37±2,72). The participants were 119 team sports (football, hentai, volleyball, etc.100 individual sports (athletics, boxing, teakwando, etc.) He deals with. The participants were applied personal information form, the scale of uncertainty, the scale of mental resilience in sport, the multi-dimensional scale of perfectionism. In data analysis, visual statistics and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were used. The hierarchical regression analysis resulted in no role in gender, sports experience, and sport species (R=0.15; R2=0.02; Corrected R2 =0.01; F(3.218)=1.48, p>.05). Excessive attention to errors from the subdimensions of perfectionism (β=51, p<.01) has been found to be a positive contributor to uncertainty for all subdimensions of intolerance. The control dimension from the subdimensions of mental resistance (β=-35, p<.01) is the negative process of all subdimensions of intolerance to uncertainty. Furthermore, continuity from the lower dimensions of mental resistance (β=-.14, p<.01), uncertainty to uncertainty, the negative self-evaluation of uncertainty is the negative contributor of the lower dimensions. As a result, the athletes in the perfectionist structure who are excessively interested in mistakes have experienced uncertainty, worried of showing bad performance, disappointed when the events don’t go as they want, and worried of unexpected events, the low athletes are untolerant to uncertainty situations.
The aim of this study was to investigate the role of perfectionism and mental toughness in determining ıntolerance of uncertainty among adult athletes. One hundred twenty three females (Mage = 21.21±2.71 ), 96 males (Mage = 21.56 ± 2.75), in total 219 athletes (Mage = 21.37 ± 2.72) voluntarily participated in this study. One hundred nineteen of the participants engaged in team sports (football, handball, volleyball, etc.) and 100 of them engaged in individual sports (athletics, boxing, teakwando, etc.). The personal information form, the ıntolerance of uncertainty scale, sport mental toughness questionnaire and sport multidimensional perfectionism scale were administered to the participants. Descriptive statistics and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that , gender, sports experience and sport type did not have any role in predicting intolerance of uncertainty (R = 0.15; R2 = 0.02; Adjusted R2 = 0.01; F (3,218) = 1.48, p> .05). Excessive attention to errors from perfectionism sub-dimensions (β = .51, p <.01) was found to be a positive predictor of all sub-dimensions of intolerance of uncertainty The control subscale (β=-.35, p<.01) of the mental toughness was negative predictor of all subscales of intolerance of uncertainty. Also, constancy (β = -. 14, p <.01) subscale of mental toughness was found to be a negative predictor of negative self-evaluation sub-dimension of intolerance of uncertainty. In conclusion, perfectionsitic athletes who are over-concerned about their mistakes experienced higher level of intolerance of uncertainty. In addition, athletes who are worried about bad performance and unexpected events, who experienced frustration, have lower mental thoughness had higher intolerance of uncertanity.
