Abstract:

Abstract Anatolia has a rich cultural heritage by hosting to many civilizations throughout history because of its geographical location. Hittite civilization is also an important part of this heritage. Hittites, who benefited from many plants, notably wheat because of the geography they settled in, are known to utilize a variety of plants due to their therapeutic properties and their culture. To find relevant information about plants used in Hittites is possible in historical documents as well as various from scientific works. At the top of this documents Homer' s "Iliad" is placed. The information that plants are used in some celebrations, religious ceremonies and the field of health is placed in texts providing information about the Hittites Civilization. In addition, plants such as garlic (Allium sativum), devil’s dung (Ferula communis), goat's beard (Scorzonera eriophora) is seen benefiting from in ruins including the various fortune texts belonging to that period. In this study, the importance given to plants in the Hittites civilization will be mentioned. Furthermore, samples from a variety of plants used, as remedies in that period will be presented.
