The relationship between year of birth and selection process has drawn much attention from researchers in the field, in light of athlete selection process. There is a research problem: the incidence of quartile of birth in football players in youth categories interfere in the selection. The overall aim was to evaluate the association between quartiles of birth and the incidence of athletes selected based on categories and the relationship with muscle strength capacity. Athletes of youth category of A club series from The Brazilian championship composed the sample, aged between 10 to 20 years old. For the dates of birth was used the club record and realized the horizontal jump test with Guedes and Guedes protocol, 2006. It was found difference of 76.8% of athletes born in the first quartile and relative strength in the birth of quartiles was correlated difference between the same. There was a higher incidence within the first quartile, due to the selection process in athlete lower categories and the difference in maturity.
