Abstract:

The growing rural-urban interrelation is an aspect highlighted by several works recently produced in Argentina and other social contexts. This paper is the result of the theoretical considerations about rurality, and it analyzes the evolution experienced by the employment structure according to occupational sectors and categories from the spatial census re-processing. It adopts a wide rurality concept (scattered population areas and town with less than 10,000 inhabitants), taking into account the tight relationship that small urban nuclei have with their surrounding rural environment. The analysis carried out enables us to discuss the perspective of urbanizing the agricultural population. Moreover, it shows great inter-provincial heterogeneity in terms of incorporation into the labor force, which is connected with the importance historically placed on small productions and / or the crops which demand large groups of seasonal labor force in the areas considered.
