In this study, surface of AISI 1020 steel was coated by using FeCrC, FeB and FeW ferro alloy powders with plasma transferred arc (PTA) coating method. Ferro alloy powders were blended in chemical composition of (wt.%) 80FeCrC -10FeW-10FeB and AISI 1020 steel surface was coated at two different currents (120A, 160A) and two different travelling speeds (0.1 m/min, 0.15 m/min). The microstructure of the obtained samples were analyzed with optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), wave length dispersive X-ray (WDX) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDS) methods. Microhardness test and pinon-disc test was utilized for determining the mechanical properties of the coating. Wear tests were performed at 19.62 N, 39.24 N and 58.86 N load and the sliding distance of 900 m. The results indicate that the coating layers consists of mainly M7C3 (M=Fe, Cr, W) and M23C6 (M=Fe, Cr, W) carbides and the microstructure of the sample, which was coated with high heat input and low travelling speed is dendritic. The maximum microhardness was measured 1668 HV0,2 and the highest average hardness was measured 1063 HV0,2. Wear resistance of the coated AISI 1020 surface with Fe-Cr-W-B-C was determined higher than the uncoated AISI 1020.
