Abstract:

The formation of the Safavid state of Azerbaijan and the unification of the south and north provinces of our country are one of the exceptional events of our homeland in the Middle Ages. Numerous investigations on the history of the Safavid state were conducted in the historiography of both the homeland and the foreign countries, and a number of voluable research works were written. These works mainly contributed to the coverage of the dark pages of the homeland, covering the political, economic, social and cultural issues of the Safavids.H, many issues that have not yet been studied or poorly studied about the Safavid rulers still remain. Although a number of monographs and articles contain voluable information. About the Safavidstate’s military history, there is no special investigation on this issul. So, there is a great need for a scientific investigation of the problem. These studies can contribute to the elimination of the current gapin the study of the Safavid state`s military construction.The article based on primary sources deals with the structure of the army of the Azerbaijani Safavi Empire, and grounds the fact of its transformation during the reign of Shah Abbas I (1587-1629) into the most powerful regular army of its time. In the article were given new and interesting facts on the sources of the Safavidarmy for the first time.
