Bu çalışmanın amacı, yabancı sermayeli hayat dışı sigorta şirketlerinin aktif kârlılığını belirleyen faktörleri analiz etmektir. Çalışmada ayrıca şirket düzeyindeki değişkenlerin karlılık performansı üzerindeki etkisinin şirket büyüklüğüne bağlı olup olmadığını araştırılmıştır. Çalışmada, Türkiye'de faaliyet gösteren 18 sigorta şirketinin 2010 yılının ilk çeyreği ile 2020 yılının ikinci çeyreği arasındaki üçer aylık veri setine panel regresyon analizi uygulanmıştır. Analiz sonuçlarına göre, küçük ölçekli sigorta şirketlerinin aktif kârlılığının sırasıyla firma büyüklüğü, faaliyet giderleri, finansal kaldıraç, hasar-prim oranı ve yatırım getirilerinden önemli ölçüde etkilendiği tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca, büyük ölçekli sigorta şirketlerinin aktif karlılıklarının ise firma büyüklüğü, likidite oranı, sermaye yeterlilik oranı ve hasar-prim oranı gibi değişkenlerden anlamlı bir şekilde etkilendiği tespit edilmiştir. Dolayısıyla, bu sonuçlar göstermektedir ki sigortacılık sektöründe karlılık üzerinde etkili olan faktörleri araştırırken şirket büyüklüğünün dikkate alınması gerektiği gerçeğini ortaya koymaktadır. Çalışmadan elde edilen bulgular hem sektördeki yöneticiler hem de düzenleyici ve denetleyici mekanizmalar için önemlidir.
The aim of this study is to analyze the factors that determine the active profitability of foreign-capital non-life insurance companies. The study also examined whether the impact of the variables at the company level on profitability performance depends on the size of the company. In the study, a panel regression analysis was applied to the three-month data set between the first quarter of 2010 and the second quarter of 2020 of 18 insurance companies operating in Turkey. According to the results of the analysis, the active profitability of small-scale insurance companies has been found to be significantly affected by the size of the company, operating costs, financial liftings, the loss-prime ratio and investment returns, respectively. In addition, the active profitability of large-scale insurance companies has been found to be significantly affected by variables such as the size of the company, the liquidity rate, the capital capacity rate and the damage-prim rate. Thus, these findings show that the fact that the size of the company should be taken into account when investigating the factors that affect profitability in the insurance sector. The findings obtained from the study are important for both managers in the sector and regulatory and supervisory mechanisms.
