Zonguldak is one of Turkey’s richest provinces in terms of underground resources such as stone coal and is home to its enterprises in mines such as aluminum (boxite), iron, manganese. The aim of this study is to explore its anthropogenic effects using ecological indicators such as enrichment (EFsoil), transfer (TFi) and accumulation (EFi) factors in the areas where agricultural activities are intense in Zonguldak. It is also to evaluate the effect of heavy metal accumulation in the soil on the yellow cantaron plant (Hypericum perforatum). According to the EF factor, the soil has not been enriched in terms of Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Sr, Mo, Sn, Ba, Hg, Pb, Si, Ti, Se, Cd, Hg, high in terms of Fe, and very high in terms of Na, Mg, Ca, Mn. In particular, the considerable enrichment of the Ca, Na and Mg elements will increase the pH of the soil, showing that the producer should take the necessary measures in the fertilization and irrigation water policy. The EFi and TFi factors of the flowers and body parts of the yellow cantaron plant have been studied and it has been found to be a bioaccumulator, also a bioindicator plant, especially for the Cd, PbCr, Ni, Cu and Zn elements. The found element concentrations and bioaccumulator have shown that the yellow cantaron plant that is identified and used as a healing plant should be cautious when it is collected and used as a medicine.
