Abstract:

Natural history museums, which contain natural materials, represent millions and even billions of years of history of the earth. These museums are important because they are places where specimens are collected, archived and preserved in order to be passed on to future generations. The increasing demand for nature and natural resources with industrialization has led to an increase in the destruction of nature. Accordingly, awareness-raising activities on this subject have been increasing in recent years. The best method of instilling a love of nature in the society and explaining the value of nature and its resources to individuals of all ages is the activities to be held in nature and in natural history museums, which we can define as a closed area model. Natural history museums host all materials related to nature. Each nature representative in the museum, animate or inanimate, tells its visitors their own life story. In the light of all this information, SCU Natural History Museum has been continuing its education intensively since the date it was opened with its wide range of collections consisting of minerals, rocks, mine, fossils, plants and animals. Considering the permanence of learning by seeing, touching and entertainment, the importance of these trainings becomes clear. The parallelism of the content of the museum with the primary, especially secondary, science curriculum subjects allows the reinforcement of the theoretical knowledge taken in the lessons by seeing. In this context, primary and secondary schools show great interest in the museum. Within the scope of "Qualified Education", the fourth of the ‘United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, our museum has an important role in the area where it is located.
