Celestine-bearing evaporite mineralization is widespread in Tertiary evaporitic Sivas Basin. Akkaya Celestine deposit is oldest and the biggest open pit mine in the Sivas area. Akkaya Celestine deposit is Eocene in age and characterized by having massif ore. Based on δD (-88 ‰ ile -117 ‰) and δ18 O (O 16.2 ‰ ile 18.1 ‰) data of evaporite minerals, it can be said that sedimentary water is responsible in the formation of Akkaya Celestine deposit. δ34 S data of evaporites from Akkaya Celestine mine is indicate that origin of S is marine evaporite. High δ34 S values (22.9 ‰ ile 30.6 ‰) of celestine indicate that the dissolved sulphur in basinal brines had undergone partial reduction to sulphide. δ18 O, 87Sr/86Sr (0,707646-0707724-gypsum; 0,707202-0,707391-celestine) with δ34 S suggesting that this evaporite deposit is dominated by a marine signature. All celestine samples have lower 87Sr/86Sr ratios suggest that interstratal brines may have mixed with other circulating fluids (meteoric hydrothermal) that had interacted with the volcanic materials and had undergone Sr isotope exchange.
