Abstract:

Medieval Europe was called as dark ages by the historians because of many negative practices. In the aforesaid definition, the outbreaks causing millions death are known to play dominant role. The most brutal of these outbreaks is plague which manifested itself very often and each appearance it became more brutal. In this article, how did the plague that started in the Middle Ages and kept Europe on the hop for centuries, destroying many people’s lives besides causing demographic changes slaughter generally in Austria (Habsburg Empire), particularly in Vienna in a chronological order. In addition, it is also focused on the effects of the outbreak, the approaches of how it appeared and the role of the church and clergies during the outbreaks. The effects of the religious factor on both the emergence of plague and the solution sought to defeat is the main theme of this article. In this article, the works of the authors living during the great plague in Vienna and the works that their authors listened the plague from the first person just after the plague were used. Thus, mainly primary resources are used and this situation is thought to make this study more valuable
