Abstract:

The aim of this study is to study text images in class 3 Turkish curricula in terms of consistency and compatibility with the principles of visual design with real life. The study designed in the screening model examined all text images in the 3rd-class Turkish curriculum books of two publishers (MEB Publications-SDR Ipekyolu Publications) used in primary schools in the 2020-2021 educational year. In the framework of the study, the document review technique was used in the collection of data, the obtained data was analyzed with the visual analysis technique. According to the results obtained in the study, the images in the books studied on both publishers were found to be largely consistent with real life (MEB Publications 74.6%, SDR Silk Publications 80.1). It is found that the principle of proper use of the color is followed in all the images of the MEB Publications, and that the images of the SDR Ipekyolu Publications are also widely followed (1,9). Also, the average in both publishers of the principles of the contribution of visual objects to the transmission of messages, the color of the visual objects, the use of the line in accordance with the purpose and the use of the color in accordance with the purpose is determined as 1.9. However, it has been found that the lowest average in both publishers’ images is the effective use of the emphasis on visual objects (MEB Publications 0.3, SDR Silk Publications 0.4) of the principle.
