Abstract:

In 1950, with the Republican People's Party taking power by the Democratic Party, a very different period began in Turkey. This period of political, military, social and economic developments ended with a military coup in 1960. During the Democratic Party period, significant developments have occurred in the investment of the Ministry of National Education. The number of teachers, students and schools in each stage of education has increased almost three times. Studies in the field of education history and statistics published by official institutions have been attempted to evaluate the development of this period in a quantitative and qualitative sense. But the reflections of the investments made in the cities have formed the remaining part of the area of the subject which the payments allocated are used for the construction and repair of the educational institution. This topic the study focuses on will be presented in detail with information obtained from the archive records of the Republic period. This work, which will make a significant contribution to the history of the city’s educational work, especially in terms of the history of the educational institutions, will be presented under separate titles, developments in each stage of education, including primary education, secondary education, private education, educational places and higher education investments.

In 1950, when the Democratic Party took over from the Republican People's Party, a completely different period began in Turkey. This period, which experienced unique developments in terms of politics, military, social and economic, ended with the military coup in 1960. During the period of the Democratic Party, there were significant improvements, especially in investments in the Ministry of Education. In all levels of education, the number of teachers, students and schools increased almost three times. Studies conducted in the field of educational history and statistics published by official institutions tried to evaluate the developments in this period from a quantitative and qualitative point of view. But the reflection of the investments in cities, the question of which educational institution the allocated allowances were used for construction and repair, formed the missing side of the area. This topic, which the study focuses on, will be presented in detail, especially with information obtained from archival records of the Republican period. It will make an important contribution to the study of the history of education in the city, especially in terms of the history of educational institutions. Developments at all levels of education, including primary education, secondary education, special education, educational dormitories and investments in higher education, will be presented under separate headings.
