Abstract:

Objective: This study was conducted to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and happiness levels of health science students. Method: The sample of this descriptive and correlational study consisted of 332 students studying at the department of nursing and emergency aid and disaster management at the faculty of health sciences. Data were collected using the Emotional Intelligence Scale and the Happiness Scale. Results: The mean age of the students was 20.64±2.53 year, 68.4% were are female, 54.8% of them are emergency aid disaster management students. The total score average of the Emotional Intelligence Scale of the students was 73.39±10.09. It was found that the emotional intelligence levels of the students were high. The average score the students got from the Happiness Scale was found to be 22.25±4.61. The happiness level of the students was found to be higher than the average score. It was determined that there is a positive, strong and significant relationship between the students' total score of the Happiness Scale and their Emotional Intelligence Scale total score (r=0.543, p=0.000). Conclusion: It was found that there is a relationship between the emotional intelligence and happiness levels of the students, and the higher the emotional intelligence level of the students, the higher their happiness level.
