The article discusses the stylistic function of the allusive proper name in a literary text. The material of the study was the works of W. S. Maugham, G. Green, N. Hornby, and other English-language authors. The authors draw conclusions on the main functions of allusive names in a literary text based on the study and generalization of scientific sources. In addition to the text-forming, or text-generating, integrating, and intertextuality realization functions, there is a group of stylistic functions that create irony, expression, and a particular social sound of the text. The results of the study can be applied in the courses on foreign literature and English stylistics.
