The city of Nazareth is considered sacred by Christians because Saint Mary lived there, as did Jesus until he declared his prophethood. The city, which has signs from Yusuf en-Neccar (Mary’s fiancée) and prophets Lut, Yunus and Uzair and has been hosting ten thousands of Muslims, has also an important place in the history of Islam. The city remained under the rule of the Ottoman Empire for four centuries. This study will discuss the administrative, religious and social situation of the city in the last period of the Ottoman Empire.
