Abstract:

Accessibility is defined in the way that people with different needs can get out of their homes by themselves, access and use different buildings and open spaces without the need of others. Accessibility is becoming more important when disabled people are able to participate in economic, social and social life. To do this, the state must first implement a part of the legal arrangements, and then the local governments must take all the physical, architectural and infrastructure measures required in the built environment and in the urban scale. In this context, the purpose of the research is to identify the problems encountered in the employment of disabled persons in the context of spatial accessibility in Turkey and to develop some recommendations for their solution. The research is limited to the center of the city of Çanakkale, which is considered among the disabled friendly provinces. The research data was collected through the method of interview, with the officials of the disabled associations and the officials of the disabled employing companies. The data is analyzed by content analysis. After all, although the disabled are among the friendly provinces, it has been seen that in the centre of the city of Çanakkale, space planning is done with a sense that does not take into account the disabled, this situation restricts the access of the disabled to urban services and business opportunities.
